The curriculum for the K3 and K4 preschool classes endeavors to foster learning in a Christian atmosphere. All areas of intellectual development, social behavior, emotional balance, physical skills, and Christian values are addressed through a thematic, age appropriate, readiness program. The children experience formal and informal teaching, teacher directed activities, and free play. Academic concepts related to the alphabet and numbers are presented through games, activities, stories, and individualized opportunities. Music, art, dramatic play, science, health and social studies are incorporated into each unit of study. Socialization is addressed through learning to interact appropriately with their peers and other adults. Language skills, discrimination, perception skills, and reasoning abilities are also covered. Bible stories and verses, Christian principles and a weekly chapel are a part of the plans. Each child’s skills are evaluated in the winter and conferences are held with parents to discuss their progress.
The Kindergarten programs of First Baptist Church is accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission. The mission of the GAC is to establish standards promoting instruction of high quality for children in Georgia and to encourage schools to meet the established standards. It is an independent agency, governed by a board of elected educators from across the state. Standards are provided for teacher qualifications, curriculum goals, class sizes, facility requirements, and evaluation tools. On site visits by the Commission are scheduled with each program. We have had the accreditation for Kindergarten since 1986 and for the Preschool (K3 and K4) since 1994.
